University Hall

Christchurch is well recognized as one of New Zealand’s premier conference destinations and the international gateway to the South Island. The city boasts some of the finest restaurants in New Zealand as well as designer retail shops and golf courses.

As a city Christchurch is very easy to get around with a suburb public bus transport system. The bus system services the University of Canterbury very well and buses run every 10 minutes into the centre of the city.

University Hall, University of Canterbury’s most popular Hall, is located opposite the University of Canterbury and less than 20 minutes from the central city and the Christchurch International Airport, just a short 10 minutes away. University Hall offers quality facilities and a variety of fully furnished rooms with flexible dining options – catered or limited self catered. Recently Qualmark rated for student accommodation, conference delegates and sporting groups can be assured of a quality experience.

The Village offers lovely gardens throughout village; you are welcome take your shoes off and feel some grass in between your toes or grab a coffee and relax on the grass anytime.

These areas are shared by all guests and can also be made available for private functions. Shared spaces are ideal for registrations or a chill out area where groups can get together to watch a movie  or sky digital, conduct group activities, or relax with a book and a cup of coffee. Shared spaces equipped with a variety of technology, a pool table, books and magazines and comfortable lounges for your enjoyment.

The Village offers two intimate Meeting Rooms, accommodating from 50-100 theatre style to 20-35 classroom/u-shape. Conference catering can be arranged to suit your groups’ requirements.

The village dining hall provides a variety catering options to guests whilst staying at the village. The dinner dance venue is available for (250 per sitting) and is the perfect venue for your groups catering and event requirements. Please discuss your group’s needs.

The village has table tennis facilities available for your group to use. A friendly, yet slightly competitive game of table tennis is always great fun. Our staff can assist you with your booking.

The courts are available for individual use and for group competitions or leisure games. Our friendly staff can assist you with your booking.

The village basket ball area is a great way to have some team fun and shoot a few hoops.

The village is set alongside a superb sports field available for your group to use. Whether it is a friendly game or for serious sports training, feel free to enquire with our staff about the hire/use.

The Business Centre is equipped with a variety of technology and has computers set up in an ergonomically sound environment for your enjoyment.  It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is accessible by security access to all village guests upon request.

The Kate Sheppard & Rolleston accommodation option is home to our superior rooms, the modern accommodation blocks were built in 1997 and provide a comfortable, yet inexpensive option for the budget conscious conference planner.

The Conon, Alpers & Ngata accommodation wings were built to house the 1974 Commonwealth Games athletes. The accommodation blocks were recently refurbished to provide a comfortable environment for University Hall guests. Suitable for sporting and school groups, who are budget conscious, the halls can provide accommodation right where the sporting action is, next to the Ilam fields sporting facilities.
